Your adventure begins early. Departing Nairobi in the morning, your safari vehicle heads south along the Mombasa Road, skirting the Athi Plains before climbing gently toward the Tanzanian border. The journey to Amboseli is roughly 4.5 hours and it offers it’s own rewards: herds of zebra and wildebeest sometimes cross the road, and Maasai herdsmen in ochre-red shukas walk their cattle across the scrubland.
Arriving in Amboseli in time for a lodge lunch, the real spectacle reveals itself on your first afternoon game drive. Amboseli National Park sits at the foot of Mount Kilimanjaro, and on clear days, which are most common in the afternoon. Africa's highest peak dominates the horizon in breathtaking fashion. The park is justifiably famous for its enormous elephant herds: multi-generational family groups numbering dozens of individuals move across the open plains in stately processions. Lions rest in the shade of acacia trees. Cheetahs the fastest land animals on earth can be spotted sitting on termite mounds to get a vantage point for scanning the plains for prey. Maasai giraffes browse the treetops in unhurried elegance. The park's swamps and seasonal streams draw dense concentrations of wildlife and are magnets for extraordinary birdlife, with over 400 species recorded.

Wake before dawn for the single most iconic image in African wildlife photography: Mount Kilimanjaro in early morning light. The mountain's snow-capped summit glows rose-gold in the first minutes after sunrise, while elephant silhouettes move through the swirling ground mist below. This is a scene that has graced the covers of National Geographic and the walls of galleries worldwide and here, it is simply breakfast-time in Amboseli.
Your morning game drive targets the park's swamp areas, where large concentrations of elephants wade, drink, and socialise in spectacular fashion. Our guides extensive knowledge of this ecosystem will help you identify individual elephants by ear notches and tusk shapes, a remarkable reminder that these are individuals with complex social bonds and long memories. Predator activity peaks in the morning hours: cheetah mothers sometimes hunt in full view across open ground, and lion prides may still be finishing a dawn kill.
Return to the lodge for a leisurely breakfast and midday rest an essential rhythm of safari life, since midday heat slows wildlife activity. The afternoon drive explores different circuits, perhaps reaching Observation Hill, which offers a panoramic view across the park's entire mosaic of swamp, savannah, and acacia woodland. PHOTOGRAPHY TIP
Shoot during the Golden Hours, the first 90 minutes after sunrise and the final 90 minutes before sunset. In Amboseli, position yourself with Kilimanjaro behind your subject for the defining safari shot.

Enjoy your final breakfast at Ol Tukai Lodge Amboseli while taking in the iconic views of Mount Kilimanjaro. You will want to check out early (around 6:30 AM to 7:00 AM), as the drive north to the Great Rift Valley covers approximately 310 kilometers and takes roughly 5.5 to 6 hours depending on Nairobi traffic.

Midday Arrival & Lunch

Afternoon Boat Ride & Walking Safari
Head down to the lake shore for a private afternoon boat cruise.
Your boat ride offers excellent bird-watching opportunities for fish eagles and pelicans, alongside close-up views of hippo pods.

Crescent Island
The boat will drop you at Crescent Island Game Sanctuary for a guided walking safari. Because there are no large predators on the island, you can safely walk right alongside herds of wildebeest, giraffes, and zebras.
Evening
Return to Lake Naivasha Sopa Resort for dinner and your overnight stay. Keep an eye out after dark, as hippos frequently come out of the lake to graze on the lodge lawns.

After an early breakfast, check out and drive north toward Nakuru (about 2-3 hours). Enter Lake Nakuru National Park for a morning game drive.
Explore the acacia woodlands and the lakeshore, keeping a lookout for both black and white rhinos, which find sanctuary here.
The park is also famous for its leopard sightings, Rothschild's giraffes, and large herds of buffalo.
Then Head to Sarova Lion Hill Game Lodge at 1:00 PM to check in and enjoy lunch.
The lodge is classic and upscale, situated on an elevated hill that provides panoramic views over the pink-fringed waters of the lake.
Relax by the pool or enjoy the landscaped grounds for a brief rest after eating.

Late Afternoon Game Drive
Depart the lodge at 3:30 PM for your afternoon game drive, exploring different tracks of the park until dusk
This cooler time of day is optimal for tracking predators like lions and leopards as they begin to shake off their midday lethargy.
Drive up to the Baboon Cliff lookout or Out Of Africa lookout for sweeping golden-hour views of the entire ecosystem before returning to the lodge for dinner.

After breakfast, depart Lake Nakuru heading southwest toward Kenya's crown jewel: the Masai Mara National Reserve. The road descends once more through the Great Rift Valley floor before climbing the Mara escarpment, a journey through small Kenyan market towns, vast tea estates, and rolling wheat fields that give way gradually to the endless, golden grass of the Mara ecosystem. Arriving in time for lunch at your camp, the transformation in landscape is immediate and electric.

The Masai Mara is the northern extension of Tanzania's Serengeti ecosystem, together they form the largest wildlife migration corridor on earth. Even outside the Great Migration (July–October), the Mara maintains an extraordinary year-round density of predators and plains game. Your afternoon game drive begins immediately after lunch: open-sided game/pop-up roofed vehicles move through grass that stretches to every horizon, interrupted by acacia trees, seasonal rivers, and rocky outcrops called kopjes where leopards drape themselves like liquid gold. Lions are abundant, some prides number 20 or more individuals. Elephant herds, hyena clans, and cheetah coalitions are frequently encountered in the same drive.

Dedicate a full, uninterrupted day to the Masai Mara and let the wilderness set the agenda. Departing camp at dawn, your guide will track overnight activity and position you for morning wildlife encounters. The Mara River crossing points are essential visits: Hippos wallow in their dozens in the deeper pools, while Nile Crocodiles, some measuring over four metres, glide through the current. Even without a Great Migration crossing, the river itself is a permanent theatre of wild drama.
The Big Five search occupies much of the day. Elephant and Buffalo are reliably seen throughout the reserve. Lions are so well-habituated to vehicles that your 4x4 can park within metres of a resting pride, close enough to hear them breathe. Leopard sightings require patience and an expert guide's knowledge of favoured trees along riverine galleries. Rhino are present in smaller numbers, often spotted near the Mara Triangle in the western sector. The day is punctuated by a bush picnic lunch, a white-tablecloth spread served beneath an acacia,  before afternoon drives resume in pursuit of cheetah hunts, wild dog sightings, or the theatrical spectacle of a hyena clan at a carcass.

En route, your guide can arrange an optional stop at a traditional Maasai village (manyatta), where you can meet community members, learn about their pastoralist way of life, observe traditional jumping dances, and browse hand-crafted beadwork and jewellery. This cultural exchange is deeply enriching and a meaningful way to connect with the human dimension of Kenya's wild landscape.
Arriving back in Nairobi in the late afternoon, your circuit is complete.
